Memorable Journey to Mcleodganj, Naddi & Dharamshala

🌄 Peaceful Journey of Mcleodganj, Naddi Village and Dharamshala – Memorable Moments Spent Between Mountains, Temples and Silent Streets
✨ A Heart-Touching Beginning (04-Apr-2026)
The mountains of Himachal Pradesh have always attracted people towards them. But there are some places here which are not only seen with the eyes, but also felt deeply by the heart. In this journey of Dharamshala and Mcleodganj, I also experienced many such moments… where the silence of the mountains, cedar forests, small villages, temple bells and the simplicity of the people slowly touched my heart.
Naddi Village, located at around 7000 feet above sea level near Dharamshala, was the most peaceful part of this journey. Small houses between distant mountains, smoke rising from the fields and greenery spread all around made it feel like life here moves very slowly and peacefully.
1. 🏡 An Experience of Getting Lost in the Streets of Naddi Village
As soon as I reached Naddi Village, the first thing I felt was the peace of the place. Unlike cities, there was no noise of vehicles here. There were only sounds of birds, cool air and the silence of the mountains.
The streets of the village give a completely different experience. Somewhere there were small walking paths, and somewhere stairs could be seen going up towards the mountains. In the beginning, I was not able to understand the roads because every street was going in a new direction. But maybe this is the beauty of the mountains… here the roads look more beautiful than the destination itself.
On the way, I had small conversations with village people. Someone showed the way, while someone smiled and said Namaste. These small things make the journey even more memorable.
2. 🌿 Village Morning and Life in the Mountains
The morning in Naddi Village does not begin with a mobile alarm but with the sound of sparrows and birds. The air here feels so clean that with every breath, the mind also starts feeling lighter.
Around 2000 people live here and most of them belong to the Gaddi community. Cows and goats can be seen outside almost every house. Village women are seen feeding their animals early in the morning. Here, animals are not just pets but a part of the family.
At one place, some small goats were playing. The natural smell of fodder and mountain leaves around them was making the whole atmosphere even more beautiful. I lovingly gave one small goat the name “Gopu.” Her innocent activities automatically brought a smile to my face.
3. 🌾 Mustard Fields and Simplicity of Village Life
While walking through the streets of Naddi Village, small mustard fields can be seen outside almost every house. People here do terrace farming. Mustard flowers dancing in the light wind and mountains visible far away looked just like a painting.
I spent around three to four hours between these fields. Sitting there and simply feeling the wind, listening to birds and watching the mountains… all this felt completely different from the busy city life.
There are also many small temples in the narrow streets of the village where both faith and peace can be felt together.
4. 🏠 Homestays and the View of the Mountains
There are many small homestays in the village. During conversations, I came to know that foreign tourists also come here to stay for a long time because people really love the peaceful environment of this place.
A full view of the mountains can be seen from here and the sunset view in the evening is also extremely beautiful. If someone has work-from-home, then this place will feel nothing less than a dream destination for them.
5. 😊 Small Village Moments That Became Memories
While walking in the village, I met a small child named Ivan. His innocent talks, stories about going to school and excitement about using the camera truly touched my heart.
These small moments are what make any journey special. People in the mountains are very simple and maybe this is the reason why the atmosphere there feels so peaceful.
6. 🕉️ Peaceful and Spiritual Experience of Mcleodganj
After Naddi Village, the journey moved ahead towards Mcleodganj. The most important part here is the Dalai Lama Temple Complex. It is the residence place of His Holiness Dalai Lama and as soon as you reach here, a different kind of peace can be felt.
I rotated the prayer wheels there and listened to the chanting of monks. The whole atmosphere was so peaceful that for some time, the mind became completely calm. Inside the temple, the huge statue of Lord Buddha and the glimpse of Tibetan culture give great peace to the heart.
This monastery is not just a religious place but also gives a feeling of mental peace. People from different countries of the world come here and spend some time feeling this calmness.
7. 🌲 The Silence of Dal Lake
Reaching Dal Lake, located between Mcleodganj and Naddi Village, was also a very peaceful experience of this journey. This small lake is surrounded by tall trees.
At the time when I reached there, the lake did not have as much water as I had expected, but the peace of that place makes you forget everything. Visiting the Lord Shiva temple built near the lake gave a completely different feeling of peace.
8. ⛪ Old Church Between Cedar Forests
After Dal Lake, I reached St. John in the Wilderness Church. Built between dense cedar forests, this church looks like a scene from an old English movie.
This church is quite old and because it is located between forests, deep peace can be felt here. Sitting there, simply watching the trees and feeling the cool air was itself a very relaxing experience.
9. 🙏 Bhagsunag Temple and the Waterfall Route
After this, I reached Bhagsunag Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the cold water pond built near the temple, people were seen taking dips with faith and devotion.
From the temple, by trekking around one kilometer upwards, Bhagsunag Waterfall can be reached. However, at the time when I reached there, the water was very less, so I did not spend much time there.
10. 🏏 Amazing View of Dharamshala Cricket Stadium
After the Dalai Lama Temple, I reached Dharamshala Cricket Stadium. It is one of the most beautiful and highest-altitude stadiums in the world.
But its biggest beauty is its background. The snowy peaks of the Dhauladhar mountains visible behind the stadium look so close as if they are a part of the stadium itself.
11. 🇮🇳 Emotional Peace of the War Memorial
Just a short distance from the stadium, the War Memorial and its museum are located. Built between dense pine forests, this place feels very peaceful and emotional.
This memorial has been built in memory of those brave soldiers who gave their lives for the country. The names written on the walls and the greenery around create a completely different feeling in the heart.
12. 🍃 Greenery of Palampur Tea Gardens
Moving ahead from Dharamshala, I got the chance to see the huge tea gardens of Palampur. Looking at the greenery spread far and wide, it felt as if someone had laid a green carpet on the earth.
I stopped there and walked between the tea gardens while feeling the fragrance of fresh tea leaves. There was a different kind of freshness in the air there.
13. 🛕 Experience of the Historic Baijnath Temple
The final major stop of the journey was Baijnath Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this ancient temple is known for its stone carvings and old architecture.
As soon as you step into the temple premises, a deep and peaceful energy can be felt. The time spent there felt like the most calm and spiritual part of the whole journey.

15. 🌌 Emotional and Peaceful Ending
This journey was not just about visiting Dharamshala, Mcleodganj or Naddi Village. It was a journey of feeling those small things which we leave behind somewhere in the busy rush of city life. The mountain air, simplicity of village life, peace of temples and smiles of the people… all these settled in my heart forever.
Sometimes the most beautiful places are those where there is not much noise… only peace exists there.
