Lonavala Monsoon Trip: Waterfalls & Cloudy Views

🌧️ Lonavala Monsoon Trip: Memorable Moments Between Clouds, Waterfalls & Mountains
🌿 An Emotional Beginning (16-Aug-2025)
Whenever we think about Maharashtra, one hill station that comes first to mind is Lonavala. But during monsoon, the real magic of this place feels completely different. As soon as the rain starts, the whole Lonavala gets covered with a thick green blanket. Small waterfalls suddenly appearing beside the roads, clouds slowly moving over the mountains, cool winds, and roads lost in fog… everything starts feeling like a beautiful dream.
The most beautiful part of this journey was not only the places, but also the emotions that stayed with us at every turn. Sometimes laughing openly with family, sometimes watching clouds touching the mountains, and sometimes enjoying peaceful valleys with the steam of hot tea. It felt like all the rush and stress of city life had been left far behind.
This trip was not only about traveling, but also about giving ourselves completely to nature for some time.
1. 🚆 Journey to Reach Lonavala
Our journey started from Lonavala Railway Station. As soon as we got down at the station, cool wind and the freshness of rain welcomed us. Outside the station, tourists could be seen everywhere. Some had come with family, some with friends, and a few people had come alone to enjoy this monsoon season.
There we came to know that the easiest and most budget-friendly way to reach Lonavala is by train. From Mumbai, it costs around ₹200, and from Pune only ₹70 to reach here by train. That is the reason why such huge crowds are seen here during monsoon days.
If you come by your own car or bike, then the journey becomes even more enjoyable. Rain-soaked roads and the curved turns of the ghats make the whole trip unforgettable.
2. 🛺 Experience of Exploring Full Lonavala by Auto
Outside the station, many autos were standing. We spoke with one auto driver who told us that the main points of Lonavala and Khandala can be explored in around 5 to 6 hours. He offered a package of ₹1500 which included many places.
After listening to him, it felt that exploring this place is not as difficult as people think. Easy travel options are available to reach every tourist point. The best thing was that there was a warm local feeling in the conversation.
3. 🏨 Experience of Staying in Hotel
There is absolutely no shortage of hotels in the main market area of Lonavala. From budget hotels to luxury resorts, every type of option is available. We decided to stay in a basic hotel.
The room was not very luxurious, but it was definitely clean and comfortable. With a TV, basic furniture, and a clean bathroom, everything felt simple but good. After traveling the whole day, such a place gives real peace.
At ₹1800 per night, the stay felt good and worth it.
Spending the night with the sound of rain outside was itself a very peaceful experience.
4. 🌊 Peaceful Beauty of Lonavala Lake
The next morning, we reached Lonavala Lake.
This place is only 2 kilometers away from the railway station. The weather was clear, so the lake view looked extremely beautiful and fresh. There was a lot of crowd around, but still the place had a strange kind of peace.
Sitting there with Mom and Dad and watching the views was probably the most emotional part of this trip. There was slight coolness in the air, and the lake in front was holding the reflection of clouds within itself.
Dad jokingly said, “Let’s buy a house here only.”
Everyone laughed at that moment. Such small moments are what make a journey truly memorable.
5. 💦 Bhushi Dam: Real Fun of Rain & Crowd
As soon as we reached Bhushi Dam, it felt like the whole Maharashtra had gathered there.
Even though it was Monday, seeing such a huge crowd was surprising. Everywhere, only people could be seen. But the reason behind this crowd was also very clear. The water flowing through the dam steps looked so beautiful that everyone wanted to spend some time there.
Water was continuously flowing, and people were sitting in it enjoying the rain. Around the area, there were many small stalls selling corn, Maggi, and snacks. The combination of hot Maggi and cool weather was making the monsoon trip feel complete.
Near the dam, the sound of flowing water, people’s laughter, and the fog coming down from the mountains together created a completely different atmosphere.
6. 🌥️ Tiger Point’s View Lost in the Clouds
Reaching Tiger Point felt like the most cinematic part of this journey.
The cool morning wind, hot tea in hand, and valleys covered with clouds in front of us… for some time, it felt like time itself had stopped.
The view visible from a height of around 650 meters is very difficult to explain in words. Far away, Lonavala Lake could be seen, waterfalls were flowing from different places, and clouds were slowly covering the valleys.
Standing there, only one feeling was coming to mind – how small humans are in front of nature.
Because of the rain, the whole atmosphere was covered in fog. The wind was touching the face, and it felt like the mountains themselves were calling you closer.
7. 🏞️ Exciting Climb of Bhaja Waterfall & Caves
While going towards Bhaja Caves, waterfalls started appearing on the way itself.
As soon as we reached near Bhaja Waterfall, the loud sound of water and the waterfall falling from the mountains completely refreshed the mind. Small stalls were set up below where the smell of hot Maggi and roasted corn was making the rainy weather even more special.
Then started the climb of 200 steps.
Because of the rain, the path was a little slippery, but the weather was so beautiful that we did not even feel tired. The view we got after reaching the top was truly unforgettable.
As soon as we stepped inside the Bhaja Caves, it felt like entering another world. Everywhere there were structures carved out of rocks. The silence there, cool wind, and peace spread between the mountains could be deeply felt from inside.
8. 🏰 Lohagad Fort Trek: History Between the Clouds
The trek to Lohagad Fort was the most adventurous part of this whole journey.
Rain-soaked stones, small waterfalls flowing beside the path, and the fort covered with clouds… everything looked like a movie scene.
As we kept climbing higher, the cold wind also became stronger. While crossing Ganesh Darwaza, Narayan Darwaza, and Hanuman Darwaza on the way, it felt like we were walking through history itself.
After reaching the top, only clouds could be seen all around. Sometimes the clouds moved away and beautiful views of valleys became visible. From there, the famous Bichhugad trail was also visible, which looked extremely beautiful.
9. 🕉️ Peaceful Spiritual Energy of Karla Caves
To reach Karla Caves, we had to climb around 150 steps.
As soon as we reached the top, huge caves carved from giant rocks became visible. The peace there felt completely different.
The Chaitya Hall inside looked very impressive. Standing between the stone structures, we were thinking how such huge constructions were made without machines.
The cool air and peaceful atmosphere there separated us from the outside world for some time. It felt like time had stopped there itself.
10. 🙏 Peace Found at Narayani Dham
The white marble building of Narayani Dham looked extremely beautiful even from a distance.
As soon as we entered inside the temple, a different kind of peace was felt. Outside it was raining, while inside the whole atmosphere was calm and positive.
Sitting there with family for some time felt really good. In the middle of the trip, this place gave true mental peace.
11. 🌉 Amazing View from Khandala View Point
The view visible from Khandala View Point was probably the widest and grandest view of the entire trip.
Below, the expressway, faraway railway tracks, and the beautiful Kune Waterfall in front… everything looked absolutely stunning.
During the rainy season, the sound of waterfalls falling from the mountains could be heard from far away. Standing there, we just felt like keeping on watching the beautiful views.
12. 🍬 Famous Chikki & Vada Pav of Lonavala
A trip to Lonavala can never be complete without eating its famous chikki.
We visited the famous Maganlal Chikki shop where we tried Malai Chikki.
Dad was eating chikki for the first time, and the happiness on his face was truly worth watching. The taste of peanuts and mawa felt really unique and amazing.
After that, we also tried Vada Pav and Samosa. Enjoying hot Vada Pav during the rainy weather had a completely different fun.
13. 💰 Total Expense of Lonavala Trip
If you are coming from outside, then the biggest expense is usually the hotel stay.
🏨 Hotel Stay:
Around ₹3000 (2 Days)
🛺 Auto Expense:
Around ₹2500
🍽️ Food:
Around ₹2000
🎫 Entry Tickets:
₹100–₹150
Overall, the complete Lonavala trip can be comfortably done within ₹7500 to ₹8000.
14. 💚 Most Special Feelings of This Journey
In this entire trip, the most beautiful things were not only the places, but also those small moments that stayed in the heart forever.
- Sitting beside the lake with Mom and Dad…
- Doing the fort trek while getting wet in the rain…
- Watching mountains lost in fog…
- Enjoying valley views with hot tea…
- And sitting peacefully while listening to the sound of rain…
Lonavala did not feel like just another hill station, but more like a peaceful break where the mind slowly starts feeling calm.
15. 🌈 A Lonavala That Became a Beautiful Memory
The beauty of Lonavala during monsoon is not only seen through the eyes, but also deeply felt through the heart.
The mountains, waterfalls, fog, rain, and peaceful valleys here take you away from the whole world for some time. This journey did not only give beautiful views, but also gave moments that will stay remembered for a long time.
Even when it was time to return, it still felt like staying a little longer between this rain, these mountains, and these clouds… maybe a few more beautiful memories could have been created.
