Munnar Travel Guide: Tea Gardens, Clouds & Peace

🌿 Munnar Trip: A Memorable Journey Full of Tea Gardens, Clouds and Peace
✨ A Beautiful Beginning Full of Emotions (07-Nov-2025)
Munnar… a beautiful hill station located in the lap of Kerala, where as soon as you reach, it feels like the fast running life suddenly becomes slow. The cool wind flowing between the mountains, endless tea gardens, valleys hidden in light mist, and changing views at every turn – this journey becomes not only about travelling, but also about feeling yourself deeply.
The meaning of Munnar is “Three Rivers”, because the rivers Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala meet here. Located at around 1600 meters above sea level, this beautiful place gives peace to the heart with its cool weather even during summer. After coming here, it feels that real relaxation is not hidden in expensive hotels, but in peaceful moments spent close to nature.
1. 🍃 First View of Munnar – Greenery Everywhere
As soon as we reached Munnar, the first thing that touched the heart was the endless tea gardens. Wherever the eyes could see, there were green tea plants spread like a green blanket over the hills. It felt like nature itself had decorated these mountains with its own hands.
The history of tea gardens here is around 150 years old. Tea farming started during the British time and today it has become the identity of Munnar. Visiting the Tea Museum was also a very special experience, where we saw how small tea leaves slowly become fragrant tea. From drying fresh leaves to rolling and grading, after watching the full process, when finally we tasted the tea, it felt like the entire beauty of Munnar was mixed in that single cup.
2. 🌊 Kundala Dam – A Peaceful World Between the Mountains
After visiting the tea gardens, the journey moved towards Kundala Dam and Lake. Built between the mountains, this dam felt like one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in Munnar. As soon as we reached there, the cool wind was touching the face and the calm water of the lake was giving a strange kind of peace to the mind.
The beautiful arch design of the dam and the greenery around it were making every moment memorable. The experience of boating and shikara ride here was also very calm and relaxing. With small parks and swings for children, this place felt perfect for spending quality time with family.
3. ☁️ Top Station – Feeling Like Standing Above the Clouds
Moving ahead from Kundala Dam, the journey reached the most beautiful viewpoint of Munnar called “Top Station”. A small trek is needed to reach here, but as soon as you reach the top, the view in front makes you forget all the tiredness.
Green valleys spread everywhere, clouds floating over the mountains, and light mist all around… it felt like nature had created its most beautiful painting here. Standing there, for the first time, it felt how huge nature is and how small humans are. This was not just a viewpoint, but a moment that is very difficult to explain completely in words.
4. 🌺 Beauty of Mattupetty Dam and Rose Garden
On the way back, the view of Mattupetty Dam also looked very different and beautiful. Sometimes the water looked green and sometimes blue, while the greenery and mountains around made everything look like a picture. Some people were seen doing meditation there, and the light wind was making the whole atmosphere even more peaceful.
After that, reaching the Rose Garden felt like entering a completely different world of colours. Not only roses, but many colourful flowers were there. Between the beautifully designed garden pathways and the fragrance of flowers, time passed without even realizing it.
5. 🐾 Eravikulam National Park – Where Nature and Wildlife Walk Together
The evening was spent at Eravikulam National Park. While going up by bus, tea gardens, small waterfalls, and mountains covered with clouds kept moving along the way. After reaching the top and walking on the trekking path, seeing the Nilgiri Tahr closely became one of the most special experiences of this journey.
From here, the view of Anamudi Peak also looked absolutely stunning. There was so much peace in nature that for some time, it felt like just sitting there quietly forever.
6. 💧 Water, Mountains and Peaceful Roads – Day Two Experience
The next day, the journey started with Chunayan Makkal Waterfall. During my visit, there was less water here, but the waterfall falling between the mountains still looked very beautiful. Sitting there for some time and just listening to the sound of water was also a very peaceful experience.
After that, walking on the 100-year-old hanging bridge was full of excitement as the bridge was shaking slightly. Then, after reaching Ponmudi Dam, the sound of flowing water below and the cold mountain air were making every moment calm and peaceful.
Reaching Nadukani View Point through the off-road jeep safari was also memorable. Although I reached here during sunset time, the fading light behind the mountains and the mist spreading across the valleys made that moment extremely beautiful.
7. 🍛 Taste of Munnar – Experience of Local Food
If you love food, then you should definitely try the local food of Munnar. The taste of Appam, Puttu, Malabar Parotta, and Fish Curry makes the journey even more memorable. These dishes are available at places like Saravana Bhavan, Rapsy Restaurant, and Gurus Restaurant.
8. 🌿 Thekkady – Fragrance of Spices and Jungle Experience
On the third day, the journey moved from Munnar towards Thekkady. Throughout the way, greenery of mountains and spice gardens kept appearing. Visiting the spice garden and learning about spices and medicinal plants was a very interesting experience. The fragrance of fresh spices bought from there still reminds me of that journey.
The hotel in Thekkady was very comfortable, and the view from its big balcony was extremely peaceful.
9. 🐘 Periyar Tiger Reserve – Some Peaceful Hours in the Middle of the Jungle
The most special experience in Thekkady was Periyar Tiger Reserve. Passing through the lake during boating and watching the forests spread around gave a completely different feeling. On the way, groups of elephants, deer, and other wild animals were seen. Nature here looks completely in its real form.
10. 🎭 Kathakali and Kalaripayattu – Meeting Kerala’s Culture
In the evening, the experience of Kalaripayattu and Kathakali at Thekkady Kathakali Centre became the cultural part of this journey. Watching stunts performed with swords, spears, and fire was surprising. At the same time, the way stories were told in Kathakali through facial expressions and eye movements felt very different and beautiful.
11. 🏨 Stay and Travel Experience
The package from “Way 4 Travels” helped a lot in making this Munnar and Thekkady trip easy and comfortable. It included airport pickup, hotel stay, sightseeing, breakfast, and dinner. The hotel locations were also good, and the whole trip was very well managed.

13. ❤️ The Most Beautiful Part of This Journey
Munnar did not feel like just a hill station… it felt like a place where a person reconnects with himself for some time. The greenery of tea gardens, cool wind flowing between the mountains, peaceful lakes, and roads lost in clouds – everything touches deeply inside the heart.
When this journey ended, it was not only photographs that stayed with me… but also some very peaceful moments, the feeling of cold mountain air, and that peace which perhaps cannot be fully explained in words. While returning from Munnar, only one thing was felt – sometimes such journeys are very important in life, where we do not just travel… but also feel ourselves a little more closely.
