Shimla Manali Trip Guide: Memorable 5-Day Journey

🏔️ Shimla and Manali Trip Guide: A 5-Day Journey Full of Snowy Mountains, Peaceful Valleys and Beautiful Memories
🌄 Emotional Beginning (10-May-2026)
There is something very special in the valleys of Himachal that takes a person away from the busy world for some time. Maybe that is why every year thousands of people get attracted towards Shimla and Manali. Somewhere there are long deodar forests, somewhere snow-covered mountains, somewhere rivers flowing between the hills, and somewhere a peace which is now very difficult to find in cities.
For me also, this was not just a trip. It was a journey to feel those moments where the cold wind touches the face, tea tastes different while sitting between mountains, and every turn feels like nature is going to show something new.
1. 🚌 Starting the Journey from Delhi to Manali
Manali is around 550 kilometers from Delhi, and to reach there I selected an overnight Volvo bus journey. The journey was long, but as the bus moved towards Himachal, the outside views slowly started changing. The crowd of cities stayed behind, and the cold mountain air slowly started getting felt.
Manali is also called the “Valley of Gods.” After reaching here, this does not feel like something you only hear, but something you actually feel.
2. ❄️ Day 1 – Magical Experience of Atal Tunnel and Sissu Village
After reaching Manali, my first destination was Sissu Village. This place is around 40 kilometers from Manali. On the way, passing through the world-famous Atal Tunnel was itself a different experience. This long tunnel built at a height of 10,000 feet changes the entire view suddenly once it ends. Everywhere only snow-covered mountains start appearing.
After reaching Sissu, the first thing I tried there was the zip line. The Chandra River flowing below, white snow all around, and clear blue sky above… for a few minutes it felt like time had stopped.
The cold wind was so strong that my hands started becoming numb. In such weather, the taste of hot Maggi and tea probably cannot be explained in words. The peace of drinking hot tea while sitting in the mountains cannot be found even in expensive places in cities.
The atmosphere of Sissu felt more peaceful and raw compared to Manali. The snow here, the cold air, and the silence spread around give deep peace to the heart. I spent around 4 hours here and then started returning towards Manali.
3. 🪂 Solang Valley and Adventure Between the Mountains
On the way back, the experience of Solang Valley was also very different. Everywhere there was an atmosphere full of adventure activities. Paragliding, ATV rides, and ropeway… the excitement of people could clearly be seen everywhere.
While going up in the ropeway, the entire valley could be seen spread below. Watching the mountains from above felt like a movie scene. Nearby there was also a small trek to Anjani Mahadev Temple, where a natural ice Shivling can be seen.
4. 🏨 Day 2 – Peaceful Morning in Manali and Deodar Forests
My stay in Manali was at Hotel Snow Creek. The mountains visible from the room balcony were so beautiful that after waking up in the morning, I felt like sitting there first. It looked like a beautiful painting was placed in front of me.
The next day I explored Hadimba Devi Temple. Built between dense deodar forests, this temple feels as peaceful from inside as beautiful it looks from outside. The beautiful wooden carvings and the cold air of the forest together make the atmosphere here completely different.
While walking around the temple, only the sound of wind flowing between the trees could be heard. There are some places where a person can feel many things even without speaking anything. This place felt like one of them.
5. 🕉️ Tibetan Monastery, Vashisht Village and Jogini Waterfall
As soon as I entered the Tibetan Monastery, a different kind of peace was felt. Colorful prayer flags were waving in the air, and the big statue of Lord Buddha inside was making the whole atmosphere even more peaceful.
After this, I reached Vashisht Village, which is famous for its hot water springs and old temples. While walking through the small streets here, the feeling of old Himachal can be experienced.
From here, the small trek for Jogini Waterfall starts. Throughout the way, mountains, greenery, and cold wind stayed together. After around 30-45 minutes, when the waterfall appeared in front, all the tiredness automatically disappeared. The sound of falling water and the peace around were giving a feeling that could only be experienced by sitting quietly there.
6. 🌆 Evening at Manali Mall Road
In the evening, the beauty and crowd of Manali Mall Road were worth watching. Everywhere there were people, small shops, cold air, and a different vibe of a hill station town. Sitting there and watching the movement of people was itself an experience.
Here I also tried the local street food “Siddu.” Mountain evenings, light cold weather, and hot food in hand… these small moments make the journey memorable.
7. 🚗 Day 3 – Journey Towards Shimla
The road journey from Manali to Shimla was around 230 kilometers long. Roads passing between mountains, changing weather on the way, and greenery spread far away were making the journey beautiful.
My stay in Shimla was at Toshali Royal View Resort. This hotel was at a peaceful place away from the crowd of the city. The mountains visible from the room balcony and the cold air made every moment here special.
8. 🛕 Jakhu Temple and Old Streets of Shimla
Reaching Jakhu Temple by ropeway was a very wonderful experience. As soon as we reached the top, the huge statue of Lord Hanuman started becoming visible from far away. Standing between the mountains, this statue makes the whole atmosphere look grand.
After this, I reached The Ridge and Christ Church. The old architecture of the church and the open ground around it give Shimla a different identity. During evening time, the crowd of people here, the cold air, and the slow life of the hill town give great peace to the mind.
Walking comfortably on Mall Road without traffic and noise also felt very good. The vibe here feels completely different from other cities.
9. 🏛️ IIAS Connected with History and Peaceful Green Valley
The old building of Indian Institute of Advanced Study did not feel like just a place, but felt like a part of history. The old rooms, wooden interiors, and the stories connected with it make the atmosphere very serious.
After this, the view of Green Valley was completely different. The green forests spread far away looked like someone had placed a green sheet over the mountains. Standing there quietly for some time and just watching the mountains was enough.
10. 🌲 Day 4 – Peace of Chail and Adventure of Kufri
The atmosphere of Chail felt completely different from Shimla. There was less crowd and more peace here. The road to Kali Ka Tibba was a little narrow, but the mountain views throughout the way were extremely beautiful.
After reaching the top, open mountains could be seen all around. The silence and cold air there were giving a different kind of peace to the heart. I spent around one hour there sitting quietly.
After this, the royal vibes of Chail Palace were seen. Old wooden floors, antique furniture, and deodar forests all around… the whole atmosphere felt like a story from old times.
11. 🕳️ Unique Experience of Stone Kumbh Shiv Temple
The experience of Stone Kumbh Shiv Temple was one of the most different moments of this entire journey. To reach here, a small trek had to be done. The structure of the temple was completely raw and natural.
The most memorable experience was going inside Veerbhadra Cave. While passing through the narrow and dark cave, a completely different feeling was coming. The silence inside and the atmosphere there felt very mysterious.
12. 🚙 Offroad Safari of Kufri and Himalayan Nature Park
As soon as I reached Kufri, the weather started feeling even colder. The jeep safari experience till Mahasu Peak was very enjoyable. The offroading on the way and the jeep passing between the mountains were making the whole journey exciting.
After reaching the top, the mountains spread far away and the cold air were making me feel like staying there for some more time. The evening sunset was also very beautiful. At that moment, only one thing was coming to mind — the peace of mountains is truly different.
In Himalayan Nature Park, seeing the mountain leopard closely was a very special experience. The silence of the forest, fresh air, and sounds of birds were making the whole atmosphere even more beautiful.
13. 🚂 Day 5 – Memorable Journey of the Toy Train
On Day Five, the toy train journey from Shimla to Kalka felt like one of the most peaceful and beautiful experiences of this entire trip. This slowly moving train passes through mountains, forests, and small tunnels.
The slow speed of the train itself felt like the most beautiful part of this journey because it gives enough time to enjoy every view comfortably. Pine trees spread far away outside, mountain slopes, and cold air were making the whole journey very relaxing.
Whenever the train entered a tunnel, for a few seconds the entire coach went into darkness, and then suddenly after coming out, bright sunlight and beautiful mountains started appearing in front. This small change felt very special every time.
The entire journey was around 5 to 6 hours, but the beauty of the route was so amazing that there was no feeling of time passing. Honestly, this was not just a train ride, but a very beautiful way to slowly feel the mountains.

🌙 Emotional Conclusion
Some journeys do not end just by showing places… they leave something inside a person. This journey of Shimla and Manali was also exactly like that. Somewhere there was the cold air of mountains, somewhere the silence of forests, somewhere the sound of flowing water, and somewhere such moments which probably cannot be fully explained in words.
When the mountains were getting left behind on the last day, only one feeling was there in my mind – maybe people do not go to mountains just for travelling, but to feel themselves once again.
