Queensland Mayors Propose Visitor Levy to Boost Tourism Services

Queensland

Mayors from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Cairns, and the Whitsundays have proposed an optional visitor levy to support the rising costs of tourism infrastructure and services. The levy, potentially up to 5% of room rates, would be locally managed and implemented with community input. This initiative aims to ensure high-quality facilities and experiences for both tourists and locals, while keeping the region’s natural and cultural attractions sustainable. The proposal is still under discussion and would only apply if councils choose to opt in – couriermail.com.au
