Himachal Pradesh Emerges as Top Vacation Choice for Odisha Tourists Amid Safety Concerns

In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh has become the preferred vacation destination for tourists from Odisha. Local tour operators report a significant shift in bookings, with many travelers opting for Himachal’s serene locales over the previously favored Kashmir.

Pradeep Sahu, a travel agency owner in Cuttack’s Cantonment area, noted that over 70% of summer packages were initially booked for Kashmir. However, following the April 22 attack, approximately 40% of clients have either canceled or rebooked for Himachal Pradesh. Popular destinations like Manali, Shimla, and Dharamshala are experiencing a surge in demand, prompting tour operators to increase transportation capacity, including additional buses and coordinated flights for May and June tours.

Safety concerns are a significant factor influencing this shift. Nibedita Mohanty, a Bhubaneswar-based travel consultant, emphasized that families traveling with children or senior citizens are particularly conscious about safety. Himachal Pradesh is perceived as more stable and predictable compared to the current situation in Kashmir.

Tourists like Subhransu Nayak from Buxi Bazaar echo this sentiment. Originally planning a trip to Gulmarg in May, Nayak and his family have decided to visit Manali instead, prioritizing safety in their travel plans.

This trend underscores the importance of safety in travel decisions and highlights Himachal Pradesh’s appeal as a tranquil and secure destination. With its picturesque landscapes and reliable infrastructure, Himachal continues to attract tourists seeking peace of mind during their vacations. [Reference]
