Chennai Airport Launches Fast-Track Immigration for Trusted Travellers
In a significant move to enhance passenger experience, Chennai International Airport has launched the Fast-Track Immigration Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) in January 2025. This initiative aims to streamline the immigration process for pre-verified Indian nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders, reducing wait times and improving efficiency.
Key Features of FTI-TTP:
- Biometric E-Gates: Passengers enrolled in the programme can utilize dedicated e-gates equipped with biometric authentication, allowing for swift immigration clearance.
- Two-Stage Verification: The process involves scanning the boarding pass and passport, followed by facial recognition to authenticate the traveller’s identity.
- Reduced Processing Time: The new system significantly cuts down the immigration clearance time, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Enrollment Process:
- Online Registration: Eligible travellers must register on the official portal, providing necessary documents and personal details.
- Biometric Data Submission: Post-registration, applicants need to submit their biometric data, including fingerprints and facial images, at designated centers or during their next international departure.
- Approval Notification: Upon successful verification, travellers receive confirmation, enabling them to use the fast-track e-gates during future travels.
Benefits for Travellers:
- Time Efficiency: The automated system reduces congestion and waiting times at immigration counters.
- Enhanced Security: Biometric verification ensures a secure and reliable identification process.
- Convenience: Frequent international travellers benefit from a seamless and expedited immigration experience.
The FTI-TTP is part of a broader initiative to modernize airport services across India, with plans to implement similar systems at 21 major airports. Chennai Airport’s adoption of this technology marks a significant step towards providing world-class facilities to international travellers.
